Who Gets Recommended?

Local-market research into a valuable question: who should I hire?

What we measure.

We look at visibility from several angles. The primary measure is how often a business appears across all recorded AI responses. We also track how many different customer questions surface the business and how many platforms surface it.

We use two separate tracks. A fixed Core Tracking Panel is repeated over time so we can compare movement honestly. A broader Market Discovery pass runs separately to map more of the candidate businesses and sources in the market. The two are never blended into one headline number.

In plain English

What the terms mean.

Primary metrics

  • AI Response Presence — how many recorded AI responses included the business
  • Mention Rate — that count divided by the total number of recorded responses

Supporting metrics

  • Question Coverage — how many distinct customer questions surface the business on at least one platform
  • Platform Coverage — how many of the tested platforms surface the business at least once
  • Share of Voice — the business's share of all mentions among the tracked companies

Deeper diagnostics

  • Top-3 / Top-5 / #1 appearances — how often a business is explicitly ranked within those positions, when an answer supports ordering
  • Observed position — the exact ranked position when one is explicitly supported; otherwise recorded as unranked rather than guessed
  • Source Influence — which cited sources repeatedly support the companies being surfaced

We track the market, not just a shortlist.

We don't only track the competitors chosen before a study begins. Broader discovery prompts can surface additional businesses that AI systems consider relevant to the market. We track those separately, so the research can show both the recurring shortlist and the deeper candidate set.

Core Tracking Panel — the repeated, natural customer questions used for trend measurement. Market Discovery — broader, deeper prompts used to map candidate depth and the sources that keep coming up. Discovery findings are never mixed into the Core Tracking Panel's numbers.

An observed market map, not a universal ranking.

This isn't a definitive ranking of businesses. It's a repeated sample of a discovery environment that changes by platform, question, user, location, model and date. Any ordering we show reflects the tested sample at the time it was run — we treat it as a trend to track, not a scoreboard to freeze in place.

AI-generated recommendations and search results can vary by user, location, platform, model and date. Local Visibility IQ measures repeated samples of commercially relevant queries and tracks observed visibility trends over time. Any market leaderboard or ordering shown describes the tested sample, not a universal ranking. Results are not guaranteed rankings or guaranteed sources of leads.
